Titanfall for the Xbox One and Xbox 360, the first game from Respawn Entertainment, is a first-person shooter set for release on March 11th, 2014 in North America, and just two days later in Europe. It is being published by Electronic Arts as an exclusive for Microsoft-branded consoles and platforms (Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows). Titanfall will not have a season pass feature, and it won’t have a split-screen mode, either.
Titanfall Is Set To Hit Store Shelves Soon
Titanfall is arguably the most eagerly anticipated release of 2014. If you just can’t wait to start playing the game, you can always whet your appetite with The Art of Titanfall, by Andy McVittie. The Art of Titanfall offers fans of this revolutionary game an exclusive look into the visual development of the game, through all stages of production. It’s a great coffee table book, post-release, too.
Titanfall already won well over 60 awards at E3, including Best PC Game, Best Console Game, and Best Online Multiplayer. It even garnered the Best of Show award, the most prestigious and coveted one. Also, the game has won several critics choice awards from serious gaming websites like Destructoid, Game Informer, and IGN.
In Titanfall, players take part in online multiplayer-only fights set on a war-ravaged planet, as pilots of mech-style Titans. Titanfall is being called “the Pacific Rim game we never got.” Another features that makes it unusual is that it has fast-paced action that is atypical of multiplayer fighting games (like the abilities to run walls and hijack Titans, and long periods of time between player deaths).
Based on artwork from The Art of Titanfall, we can expect to see wall-running ninjas, giant robots, spaceships that warp, mech-style Titans (of course), a war-torn planet, and even dinosaurs. Yes, you read that right. Expect to see dinosaurs.
What You Need To Know About Titanfall Characters
Respawn has announced that there will be three classes of Titans: the nimble Stryder, the ponderous Ogre, and the agile Atlas. There is a multiplayer mode that sees hostage rescuers pitted against defense kidnappers. The Militia are the civilian resistance against the IMC.
The most noted members of the Militia include a Titan War veteran, MacAllan, engineer and intel specialist, Bish, and the Marauder Corps leader, Sarah. The corporate entity, IMC, specializes in harvest natural resources from the Frontier, and their major players are commander-in-chief Vice Admiral Graves, artificial intelligence companion, Spyglass, and intel specialist, Blisk.
What Is Titanfall Gameplay Like?
Players can either fight on their feet as free-running “pilots” or inside the hulking behemoth Titans to achieve team-based goals on a war-torn and lawless planet as either the Militia or the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation. Even though the game is online multiplayer-only, it has several elements of single-player gameplay like non-player characters, character chatter, and plot. It weaves those elements into its matches.
According to one new media gaming journalist, the gameplay is extraordinary. It is nothing short of a revolution in the first-person shooter game category. Titanfall places an emphasis on parkour-style free running, and there is a lot of thought that goes into balancing the controls on a huge bulky Titan and a fast little Pilot. This innovative gameplay paradigm restructures the first-person shooter game so significantly that you will need to unlearn almost everything you already know about first-person shooters.
Titanfall Graphics Are A Perfect Example Of Why Graphics Don’t Always Matter
According to one new media gaming journalist who spoke to the game’s lead designer and who put together a preview of the game, the graphics aren’t all that great. What he described was a game that didn’t look bad graphically, but that certainly wasn’t a contender for any graphical awards. Instead, he said, the secret to the success of Titanfall is in its gameplay. He did say, however, that it looks better than most first-person shooters, but that it just didn’t have that next-generation look that some people are expecting from the game.
The core mechanics of this first-person shooter game are just going to blow you away. It is unlike any multiplayer-exclusive or first-person shooter game you’ve ever played before. It will take some time getting used to, but the change is good – it has already garnered more than 60 gaming awards.
