Star Wars: Battlefront is an action game that can be played from first person or third person point of view. Like most EA Star Wars games, you can switch point of view at any time. The game is released by Electronic Arts, or EA, who has exclusive rights to develop Star Wars games for gaming consoles. In this release of Star Wars Battlefront PlayStation 4 and Star Wars Battlefront Xbox One, players have the option to control either a Rebel Alliance Soldier or an Imperial Stormtrooper, as well as playable film characters, including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Leia Organa, Han Solo, or the Emperor. There are also cooperative missions, which can be played off line, and you have the option to complete missions independently, with bots, or with another player. The game does support split screen on consoles, and the online multiplayer mode supports up to 40 players in one match, and 12 multiplayer maps available. These maps feature locations from the Star Wars Universe, including Hot, Tatooine, Endor, Sullust, and Jakku. Let’s take a more better look at what this game has to offer in my Star Wars Battlefront review below.
Star Wars Battlefront – The Story
In this upcoming release from EA games, the story for Star Wars Battlefront has major ties to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Wars: Battlefront will actually be a lead in to the Force Awakens, which will give movie goers and gamers additional information relating to continuity. For example, the game will feature the battle of Jakku, and that will explain key plot points, like how the Star Destroyer ended up in the sands of Jakku. In fact, there are tie-ins now to the Force Awakens trailer. Some fans are somewhat disgruntled by the fact that there is not an online single player campaign; however, the story does offer an offline single player mode that replaces human players with AI controlled bots.
Star Wars Battlefront – Heroes and villains
One key point to the Star Wars Battlefront gameplay of Star Wars Battlefront is that players can become heroes or villains, depending on gameplay. When a player is a frontline soldier in Battlefront, they can become either heroes or villains by finding pickups on the battlefield, and this will determine whether they become a hero or villain. Now, you can play this game as one of your favorite Star Wars heroes or villains, and use their powers: people like Han Solo, Boba Fett, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, or the Emperor. Each player has different story lines and different abilities for game play.
Star Wars Battlefront – Vehicles
Most Star Wars enthusiasts are familiar with the variety of vehicles in the Star Wars Universe – now, these are included in the Star Wars Battlefront Game release. Whether you play for the Empire or the Rebel Alliance, there are a variety of Star Wars Battlefront vehicles accessible. Falling under The Empire are the TIE fighter, which has ability to hover and move sideways, the classic Speeder Bike, first seen in the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi, and the AT-AT and AT-ST – the empire’s equivalent of heavily armored tanks. In terms of vehicles for the rebels, there is the X-Wing, which is, essentially, the Rebel equivalent of a TIE fighter, the Y-wing, the Snow Speeder, and Han Solo’s signature ship, Millennium Falcon.
Star Wars Battlefront – What’s The Gameplay Like?
There are a variety of ways to play Star Wars Battlefront, depending on your preference. With multiple game maps and battles, as well as a variety of characters to play, it’s sure to be an exciting experience for any Star Wars fan. The game play consists of individual, off line scenarios, as well as multiplayer battles and missions ranging from 8 to 40 players. You also have the option to toggle between first and third person point of view during game play, which creates an exciting, interactive experience.
Missions in Star Wars Battlefront
There are a variety of missions, or Battle Missions, that you can play in Star Wars Battlefront. You can fight alongside the Rebel Alliance or the Empire. In Hero Battles, you can play as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and many more characters – some of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars Universe. You also have the option in battles to find against friend or enemy AI in head to head battle, which provides exciting, varied gameplay for single or multiplayer game play.
Multiplayer Functionality of Star Wars Battlefront
There are a variety of multi-player modes to take advantage of in Star Wars Battlefront, ranging from large-scale 40 player battles to smaller modes, for about 8 players. One criticism of the game is that the single player functionality is only available off-line with AI bots, but the multiplayer features promise to be extraordinary. In the Supremacy multiplayer mode for example, Rebels and Imperials fight for control of five key points. This is an intense, 40-player battle on one of the largest maps in Star Wars Battlefront, and employs both ground and air vehicles. There are also a variety of smaller battles that can be played throughout Star Wars Battlefront.
