Gears of War Judgement is the fourth installment in the Gears of War franchise. Since the Gears of War Judgement game starts off from the aftermath of Emergence Day, Gears of War Judgement is a type of prequel in its sense. Gears of War Judgement is the first in the franchise to feature people other than Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in its lead roles. It is also the first game in the franchise where the main players have their own playable background story. The Gears of War Judgement characters feature the Kilo squad consisting of Augustus Cole, a private, and Lt. Damon Baird. They are tried for treason by the government for using an illegal weapon against the government’s orders.
Gears of War Judgement – Story
The Kilo squad consists of Pvt. Augustus Cole, Ct. Sofia Hendrik, and Pvt. Garron Paduk led by Lt. Damon Baird. They were tried for treason early in the Locust war, accused by Col. Ezra Loomis due to thieving of secret Governmental technology. He gives a chance to the Kilo squad to explain their actions. They explain that on receiving orders they went to check on a convoy in Old Town, in Halvo Bay to find it destroyed. They go into the Museum of Military Glory where the meet hundreds of Locust along with their fearsome general Karn and his ride, Shibboleth. They contact Col. Loomis and suggest that they use the Lightmass missile to wipe out General Karn, but Col. Loomis vehemently opposes the idea. But seeing the massively dangerous obstacle in their path, the squad goes against his orders and proceeds to the Onyx Guard Academy where they find the targeting beacon for the missile, a targeting bot who is later named Troy by Baird.
The Kilo squad now travels (with Troy) to the mansion of Kurt Elliot, the inventor of the Lightmass missile situated in the Seahorse Hills to obtain the launch codes in order to fire the missile. They have to defend Troy while he downloads the launch codes in Gears of War Judgement. After downloading them, they head to the place where the missile itself is located, fighting thousands of Locusts in the process. Once they get the missile, they go back to the museum to assist another squad and fight on the rooftops of Old Town. Despite threats from Col. Loomis of their execution, they use Troy to guide the missile and destroy the museum, thus killing the Gears of War Judgement Locust forces and presumably General Karn. They are then attacked by a major Locust horde on their rooftop and then are arrested in Gears of War Judgement by Col. Loomis.
After hearing their explanation, Loomis prepares to execute them but the Locust attacks them and they escape, with Pvt. Paduk rescuing Loomis even though he despises him. They then flee and encounter General Karn, who survived the attack of the Lightmass bomb, on Shibboleth. Kilo and Loomis fight them, managing to kill Shibboleth. Loomis then kills Karn and refrains from executing Kilo, demoting Baird to the rank of Private instead. Then, in the aftermath campaign, Baird and Cole come back to Halvo Bay along with Clayton Carmine and find a ship along with reinforcements for an assault on Azura. Then they suddenly meet up with Paduk who had left the COG after the execution of Karn along with Sofia Hendriks. He and Sofia had set up a community in Halvo Bay with the people only caring about survival in Gears of War Judgement. He then leads Baird and the rest to a ship which can take them to Azura. As they are headed to the rig where Paduk’s people are located, they enter a battle against the Lambent. After fighting through, they send an emergency flare to alert Paduk’s people of their arrival. Paduk’s people send a King Raven to their rescue but they are busy in holding off an attack by both the Locust and the Lambent. They then escape and go to a hotel where they see a ship on top of it because a tidal wave due to the sinking of Jacinto plateau had caused it to land there. Baird realizes that to get the ship in the water he has to collapse the hotel. He tries using Gears of War Judgement explosives but has no luck. He then opens three gas valves in the hotel and uses a frag grenade to detonate it, using ziplines to get off the building. The hotel then collapses and the ship is on water. Baird then asks Paduk to accompany them but Paduk refuses, saying that Sofia had been kidnapped by men who were suspected to be Gears and thus he had hated them from then. He then advises Baird to leave if they were to remain friends in Gears of War Judgement.
